Message from Chief Medical Officer of Health Colombo

It gives me a great pleasure to be the Head of the Public Health Department of Colombo Municipal Council which has a rich and evolving history of over 110 years. The department plays a major role in maternal and child welfare, preventive medicine, food hygiene, control of epidemics, community development, health education, control of pollution and nuisance, school health, pest control and other public health related programmes. It has worked as an independent unit throughout its existence of over 110 years supporting the activities of Ministry of Health especially with regard to control of communicable disease and food hygiene.

To be recognized as the best innovative Public Health care provider in the Country.

As the principal Public Health provider of the City of Colombo the Public Health Department of the Colombo Municipal Council is committed to promote the health of its citizen & visitors by controlling effectively both communicable & non communicable diseases with the aim of making Colombo a livable City where people enjoy a healthy life style.
